Our second episode of Election Murmurs features an exclusive interview with the National Party's Arts, Culture and Heritage spokesperson Simon O'Connor reveals that a change of government would have no plans to invest further in the arts.
"If you ask whether in the next year or two we're going to increase investment in the arts, then hand on heart I can't say that we would." said O'Connor in an upfront and wide-ranging discussion.
We welcome an informed and insightful conversation with this week's arts panel, BATS Theatre's Jonty Hendry, and Red Scare Theatre Company's Cassandra Tse.
Tse was quick reassure O'Connor "oh, you're really definitely not overpromising. Don't worry Simon" while revealing to us that "Part of my reason for becoming a PHD student...is that it is a much more secure financial position to be in than being a freelance artist.".
Meanwhile Hendry reminded us again of the bigger picture. "Let's get away from the spreadsheets and the outputs and how much things cost, and get into the more important conversations that...eddy around and are at the heart of a national arts policy" he implored.
