A Merry Quartet of short performances awaits under the BATS Christmas Tree this holiday season. Featuring plays from four emerging companies, the show represents a coming together of the Wellington Community for a diverse feast of tasty theatre treats. Hosted by non other than Santa Claus themselves!
Lily della Porta
Wellington's first Short + Sweet Festival promises to be "a feast of styles and subjects...across theatre, dance, song and cabaret." We are presented with a mixed bag of eleven performances covering a wide range of topics and theatrical forms.
A Stage of One’s Own is a clever collection of performances woven together by the directors Lily della Porta, Jody Burrell, Bop Murdoch and Sabrina Martin, with strong themes of permission and exploration. Each space we enter both physically and literally is welcoming and safe, from the invitation and welcoming call of the Karanga which weaves it’s spell, creating that sense of harmonic meetings to the shifting groups of performers who create new worlds for us to explore.
Entering the intimate room, we are very aware we are entering a deeply personal space, full of black and white pictures with the same faces reoccurring, some faces looking out on the world in misery, an eclectic mix of makeup and beauty tools on a desk, details of a dark world trying to find and capture beauty.
