Guy van Egmond When the call came in to review Shakespeare’s North’s latest production, I was keen. I found their staging of Julius Caesar—last year at two/fiftyseven—endearing; though it lacked spectacle, the company had great enthusiasm and familiarity with Shakespeare’s work. I was curious to see what they’d pull off this time, bringing The Life of Henry the Fifth to the (arguably better-suited) Dome at BATS.
Zoe Christall It’s a Friday night as I walk into the electric atmosphere of Circa One. Everyone’s had a long week and we are ready for some sexy rock n’ roll as boasted in WITCH Music Theatre’s downright (if you’ll excuse the pun) bewitching poster. Seriously, props to Roc Torio’s photography and WITCH’s marketing. If the poster is anything to go by, I’m prepared to be amazed (and possibly seduced) by Lizzie.
Emilie Hope Dolphins are fun, friendly, and full of energy, and Thinking Dolphins at BATS was also all of these things. As I walk up to the Heyday Dome, the doors are closed and I panic that the show has already begun! Thankfully, this was only to keep the mysterious stage smoke within the theatre. As soon as I stepped into the space, the actors greeted me and spoke enthusiastically to the audience. Their energy juxtaposed the ominous smoke and the moody blue and green lighting palette.
