Lizzie Murray
Lana, 20-something, Rotorua. A Sagittarius-cat owner-stand up comic with a “it was mutual” breakup haircut seeks romance, midnight snacks and ex boyfriends’ weddings. In her first solo NZ Comedy Festival entry, Lana dishes on her disastrous attempts at dating and faking having everything together.
Walters’ humour is fresh and absurd. In Faking It, Walters gets up close and personal and weaves quirky tales with surreal scenes. She covers many issues close to the modern women’s heart including bra fittings, unfaithful cats and call center blues.
Dressed in red for romance, Walters takes the spotlight in the small-scale studio theatre. Walter’s bubbly personality and high energy is consistently engaging. Sporadic moments of audience interaction highlighted her charisma. The show may have benefited from more audience participation in the intimate space.
The show wrapped up sooner than I would have liked, having expected a full hour of self deprecating stand-up. I was left wanting more and could listen to Walters illustrate tragic tinder dates over a girls' night at a BYO dinner for hours.
Walters makes us laugh loud and fakes it until she makes it… hilariously awkward for everyone involved. Swipe right for Lana and see last show at BATS at 8:30pm tonight!
