When we think of the idiom The Wild Blue Yonder I think of heading off somewhere and never coming back, the internet describes it as when you go somewhere far away that seems exciting because it is not known. Heading into Brendhan Lovegrove’s show it explains pretty well how I felt. I’d heard a lot about his comedy and was excited to see the unknown for myself. He didn’t disappoint, he went some crazy places with his comedy but what a good time!
Lovegrove has an observational style of comedy that takes what everyone knows and twists it about to make you question yourself while laughing hard. He pokes fun at both the audience and himself, even making  fun at people who aren’t there so they don’t feel left out.

He does impressions and accents and a reenactment of long-distance sex; and it’s all brilliantly performed. He flows from yelling at us like a crazy person to trying to convince us that he is needed in the fight to cure cancer and we’re laughing at all of it.

From shop mannequins to Australians, nothing is safe from his clever yet brutal verbal attack. Even more difficult topics like being PC and the pay gap get bantered around with the audience in bold and brassy ways. I enjoyed the confident way that  Lovegrove knows what kind of comic he is and is staying true to his style of humour. I laughed hard at his stories and harder at his French language demonstrations. He’s got an eye for telling a tale and a mouth that gets him into some tricky situations.

The Wild Blue Yonder is a show for those who don’t take themselves or the world around them too seriously and are willing to have everyone and everything poked fun at. There’s no PC here and in a world that is gradually turning more and more ridiculous, I’m glad that there’s someone pointing the finger at it and making us laugh.

Brendhan Lovegrove’s show The Wild Blue Yonder is on at VK’s Comedy Bar from 03 May 2016 to 07 May 2016 at 8.30pm
